Alright readers, it’s me and I already wrote about my views on other people’s book opinions but now it’s time for my bookish opinions. Let me know if you agree with them or I need to go touch grass. 🙂 <3
DISCLAIMER: These are just my opinions and you don’t have to agree with or even take them super seriously. Just hear me out.
- Audiobooks aren’t actually reading:
- This is a very, very (and I cannot stress this enough) very controversial take. To me, audiobooks aren’t reading because you aren’t reading anything. You’re listening to them; they’re more of a podcast. I listened to some of Good Girl Bad Blood while reading, but its not truly reading a book.
- Organizing books by color is a bad way to do so:
- Organizing books by color is a bad idea because it splits up the series, making locating specific books by title or author challenging. I love keeping my series together. I personally organize my shelves by my TBR, and I love it because it visually shows me what I’ve read and what I want to read next. But if you love your color-coded shelves, then you do you.
- I don’t mind spoilers:
- That’s right. I don’t really mind spoilers that much. Even if I find out some little part of the book, I’ll continue to read it out of pure joy for myself. For example, I saw a spoiler about As Good As Dead by Holly Jackson, but I still loved that book and enjoyed reading it.
- Sometimes writing is actually bad:
- Writing is sometimes terrible. I know and understand that writing is subjective, but there have to be some books that aren’t good, and that’s okay. Not everything that’s  published has to be amazingly written; sometimes, badly written books can be very fun to read.
- Sometimes books are too long:
- People might not agree with me, but sometimes books are too long. I felt this very strongly with The Lost Heroby Rick Riordan , but I still enjoyed the book. Sometimes, a lot of extra information that really doesn’t add anything to the story or the characters’ POVs recounting the same incident through all the POVs can be exhausting to read.
- Physical books are better than kindles:
- I personally love holding a book in my hands and getting to physically flip and page and watch the pages that I have to read get smaller, but saying all of this, I do have a Kindle account on my iPad, and the Kindle can be a straightforward way for reading as all the books you want are in one thing. But for me, I absolutely LOVE holding a book in my hands so muchhh.
- More than 5-7 books in a series is way too much:
- Yes, sometimes there are too many books in a series. I saw someone say that they are currently reading a 30-book series, and at that point, I was like, “Is it really worth 30 books?” Because I really don’t think so. I feel like there can’t possibly be that much for someone to write about in a single series.
- Most of the books you read can be 3+ stars:
- Soooo, most of the books I read are 3+ stars for me cause when buying books I try to choose books that I would really enjoy because why would I put myself through reading something I know I wouldn’t want. Saying this, I do try to explore different genres and branch out in my reading tastes, but even in that, I read the blurbs and choose ones that I think I’d enjoy, and I’ve seen some people say that it isn’t a proper way to select books, but I disagree
- When you think about it Harry Potter isn’t that amazing:
- Okay, so I know that this is a bit random, but I just had to say it. I have watched the Harry Potter movies more than I can count on my fingers, and I genuinely enjoy them, and I’ve read the first 3 books but couldn’t get myself to continue them(do not come for me, please). Now that I think about it, the ending of Harry working for the oppressive government that he fought against for so many years makes no sense to me, and doesn’t make him a hero to me. People parade the series around a lot, but I honestly don’t think that there was that much behind it. The story has a lot of plot holes and plot devices that are too convenient to cover up said plot holes and they do it poorly. I’m so sorry to all the die-hard Potterheads, but it’s kinda true if you think about it.
- People care too much about star ratings:
- Yes, I use star ratings, but reading at the end of the day, READING IS SUBJECTIVE!!! So what might be a 5-star for one person might not be for another, so read the blurbs and see if you’d like. Don’t depend on other opinions on whether you want to read a book. However, taking recommendations and other opinions on books is also a fantastic thing; I love listening to other people’s opinions because everyone interprets literature in different ways, so hearing someone else understand certain books differently from me is fun.
Well, these are some bookish opinions of mine. I hope you’ve enjoyed reading my opinions.Â
Until I form more opinions no one aksed for,
Sarayu
